Questions people ask
How much does Square charge per transaction?
On the Free plan, 2026 guides list 2.6% + $0.15 for tap, dip or swipe, 3.3% + $0.30 for online payments and invoices, and 3.5% + $0.15 for keyed-in cards.
Why is keying in a card more expensive?
A typed-in card is riskier for fraud than a tapped or chipped card, so Square charges more for it.
Should I add Square's fee to my prices?
Many sellers build it into their price instead of adding a surcharge. Use the "want a set amount" box to see what to charge.
